Outreach in Our Community
Bethany supports these programs in our community with donations of our time, talents, and possessions.
Helpline House
Helpline House offers an umbrella of social services on Bainbridge Island and invites the community to become part of the circle of giving and receiving help. Bethany has supported Helpline House since its founding in the 1960s as a food bank in response to the "war on poverty." This community-funded non-profit agency provides a full range of services: food bank, clothing bank, medical equipment for loan, social work advocacy and consultation, and referrals to counseling.
Basic services are provided cost-free to those in need. Needs are defined broadly, and are not always financial. Any community member in crisis or in need of social work consultation, volunteer opportunities or other service is welcome at Helpline House.
Compass Housing Alliance
Compass Housing Alliance provides a range of services and housing options to people struggling with homelessness and poverty in the Seattle area:
- Services, shelter, and transitional housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
- Permanent low-income housing for individuals or families who do not make a living wage or are formerly homeless.
- Development of affordable housing units for low-income tenants.
Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers
Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers (IVC) is a non-profit organization established in 1996 and originally organized by local faith communities. Some of IVC's care receivers are elderly people who want to continue to live in their homes and need help with routine activities, people who may be recovering from a medical condition or a mental or emotional stress and need temporary help with their day-to-day living, over-burdened family caregivers who need a break for a few hours from stressful responsibilities, and people living in skilled nursing facilities who need consistent companionship and emotional support.
