Youth Programs at Bethany

Our Youth Group opportunities are made available to youth on Bainbridge Island and the surrounding communities. You do not need to be a member of Bethany to participate, although the goal of some events is to build community so some attendance expectations may apply. You will see that we have a variety of opportunities. Some opportunities are geared towards building a community and learning about God. Service event opportunities allow youth to practice walking a path that cares for other sisters and brothers, and not just themselves. Still other opportunities might resonate with a youth’s passion for music and drama. There are many ways in which we can connect with God and begin to see what God’s dreams might be for us! See some pictures of us in action.

High School Youth Group: Grades 9-12

We welcome our 9th-12th graders this year to join us for High School Youth Group! Our regular gathering times will be on Sunday evenings beginning at 6 p.m. with dinner and conclude at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted (see calendar on the church home page). Following dinner, we'll retreat to the Yurt and sometimes have discussions on hot topics, other times we'll play some games, other times we'll watch movies together, sometimes we'll do all of the above! The possibilities are endless and we invite you to help design your high school program. Each month, there will also be times when we do service events, like going to the Compass Center each second Tuesday of the month. We'll add some others along the way too. These opportunities for service are important because we want to be people who not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk. One of the main goals is for us to discover together what it means to be a person of faith in this world of ours. The second goal is just as important, to bond as a community of faith. That's why we take the time to not only work together, but also play together. We will then take this bonded community on the road to other exciting high school gatherings, including Holden Village May Retreats, Lutherwood Retreats, Servant Events in Guatemala, and more. There are lots to look forward to this year. Join us!

Confirmation: Grades 7-8

On Wednesday evenings, we gather our 7th and 8th grade youth! Confirmation is not just an extension of Sunday School. It is a time in a person's faith life to "confirm" whether they can really say that they believe the things they've been taught or not. It is a great time to ask questions about things you have trouble believing or things that you just don't understand. However, our gatherings are not just about going to class. We welcome you to join us at 6 p.m. for dinner and fellowship. Following that will be a short time for games and fun. During the year, we will also have a chance to have retreats, do service events together, and participate more fully into the life of the congregation. So, your Confirmation journey is not just about learning. It is also a chance to build as a community of faith together. The finale each year is a Confirmation retreat at Lutherwood, certainly something to look forward to in the summer. Join us!

Bethany Believers: Grades 5-6

Our 5th and 6th graders this year will enjoy our Bethany Believers youth group. We typically gather on your half days. So, come on over to the church for a bite of lunch on us, some devos, and some fun. Sometimes we'll do it all right at the church. Other times we may head out to Silverdale for some fun like mini-golf or bowling. Keep an eye out for what is scheduled, how long it will take, and what to bring. We also added service opportunities this year out at the Compass Center each month on the third Thursdays of each month. Talk with those who have gone before and they will tell you how fun it is to help serve a meal to folks who are trying to make it on their own. Join us and invite a friend!

Music and Drama: All ages through high school

We have reorganized the children's choir program to include drama. We also have set up flexible schedules so that families can pick and choose how their children will participate. Our goal is to have fun while learning more about music, drama and God.

  • Faith for Kids in Story and Song, Grades K-2 and 3-5
Each group will receive basic choral and acting training through exciting music and skits that will be presented in Sunday worship twice during each eight-week session, one during the fall and one during the winter.
  • Christmas Program, Grades K-6
Participants will prepare a Christmas Eve service that tells the Christmas story from a child's point of view.
  • Lent/Easter Program, Grades 7-12
This group will prepare music and drama to tell the story of Christ's journey to the Resurrection.
  • Godspell, Jr., ages 7-17
This play presents a unique and universal reflection of the life of Jesus. It will be fun and a chance to learn more about the life of Jesus through music and drama taught by professional musicians andperformers. Participants will stage a fun, high-quality musical theater piece to be shared with the church and community.
